I follow rivers

We really liked the effect of the oil pain dissolving into the water. We thought that we could also try and do something similar. 

As our character might drown in the end, we watched this video to get an understanding on how we could film that scene. 

pros: They used their mise en scene quite well. The number of different locations made the video more interesting. They used normal clothes as their costumes. This was good because it conformed to the indie genre as band members tend to be laid back and down to earth. The performance throughout the music video was also good because indie music videos tend to showcase their performing skills to encourage the audience to see them at a live show.

Cons: The way the female character killed the male character seemed a bit too fake. It king of ruined the music video because everything else was good. I think they could have found a better way to kill him.

The effect of the water at the end could have also been better. I think they should have just used the effect when she was about to drown. The excessive use of it made it look less professional. 

Applause

The editing in this video was amazing and very inspiring. Although it was a performance music video, we thought that we could use some of the same effects for our own music video. Like when she has the lights flashing or when she uses the split screen technique multiple times.  

Pros: Although her location was quite basic and she didn't use many locations, she made a good use of the space. The make-up of the main character was amazing, it looked very professional. Her costumes were good as well. She showed a clear contrast between the costumes she wore. On one occassion her costume was quite normal, and on others the costumes were very pop/diva like. There was also a good use of background dancers. The background dancers helped the music conform to the pop genre.

Cons: The music video was a bit too much like the original. She appropriated Lady Gaga's style. I think that the music video would have been better if it was a bit more authentic and original.

Can't hold us

The cartoon theme in this video was terrific. The editing was fast paced; it kept up with the beat of the music. The editing was also manipulated quite well as the comical moments were emphasised. Since it was a combination music video, a wide range of shots were used. The video also did a good job at conforming to the conventions of a hip hop music video. 

Pros: there was a good use of mise-en-scene. The students used appropriate costumes and setting. I particularly like their good use of locations.

Cons: There weren't any.
