Michel Gondry
Daft punk - Around the world
The Around the World music video was directed by Michel Gondry. It was considered groundbreaking in those times as it broke away from conventional styles. Music video depicted a sense of futurism and surrealism.
Michel Gondry's concept was to create an extraordinary ensemble of characters in the music video, which complemented its rhythm perfectly. The video features robots walking in circles, tall athletes going up and down the stairs, women dressed as synchronized swimmers, and skeletons and mummies dancing to the beat of the song.
Each character in the video served as a visual presentation of the song. The four characters represented a different instrument or part.
Bass guitar (ascending and descending): athletes with small heads and big legs because they are physical, move constantly and have no time to think.
Guitar: Skeletons because its sounds itchy.
Synthesizer(keyboard): Disco girls because it sounds feminine.
Vocoder(vocals): Robots
Drum Machine: Mummies.
He worked with choreographer Bianca Li, so he could produce the kind of synchronicity that he envisioned. The dancers were a combination of classical and hip-hop performers. Florence Fontaine, designed the intricate costumes in the video, and Oliver Gondry operated the flashing lights. Elaborate costumes and 150 flashing lights added to the overall appeal and futuristic theme of the music video. He decided to add some interesting effects and scenes by using props and lights to create exquisite and never-before-seen images. Some of the props that he used included a circular riser, stairs with varying steps sizes and vinyl recorder-like surfaces.

I researched Michel Gondry, a famous director to understand the ways we could compliment the rhythmic flow of our song. The song we chose 'Promises' by Cloud Control is quite upbeath and fast paced.
