Make up

Here is where we shot our sun setting establishing shot; we planned to go to Norton Rose to shoot the scene but we thought that this location would be better. The roof wasn't too crowded and the view was excellent. The shots were very clear.

Bus

Bus

We shot some scenes on the bus as well; we thought that it would be a great location because young people tend to use buses to travel around London. We decided to shoot the scene on the bus as opposed to the underground because the underground is always overcrowded and very busy. It would complicate our filming and cause unnecessary inconveniences. Also on the bus there is more room to film a variety of shots; high angle, low angle, two shots, medium shots etc.

South bank

South bank

We went to south bank to film another time lapse. It was successful, we also took picture every few seconds to create a time lapse. It was crowded which is what we needed. The large number of people created sufficient movement; it made our time lapse look better.

Vintage shop

Vintage shop

This is where we filmed the scene where the two characters were looking at old music records. We stumbled upon this location and we thought it would be a great scene to add. We asked the owner and he was more than happy to let us film.

Stream's house

Stream's house

With Stream's permission we filmed at her house. We used an indoor setting because the light is quite dim. The dim lighting made our shots clear and mellow. The different sources of light also created an intimate atmosphere. Props were easily accessed, i.e tea cups, food and other objects.

South Bank Skate park

South Bank Skate park

We went there to film the skate park scene. The colourful graffiti helped set a fun mood. We did not film any fighting scenes at this location because the setting was too colourful and lively. Skate parks are a common locations for young people. The use of this location creates a sense of verisimilitude. It allows our target audience to relate to the actors. The skate park was under a bridge so the lighting was quite dim. It once again created an intimate atmosphere.

Although the actors were surrounded by people, the two actors were able to have fun and create intimate scenes. Indie music videos often use skate parks as a setting, by using skate parks we conform to the conventions of indie music videos. They are easily accessed and free to us.

Bus

Bus

On the bus we were also able to shoot a time lapse sequence. We drove around London and took pictures every few seconds to create a time lapse.

Dalston Eastern Curve Garden

The garden was decorated with halloween decorations so we thought it would be a great location to film. The setting was very natural. Indie music videos often have natural settings such as forests and parks.

Estate

Estate

This is where we filmed the establishing shot at the beginning of the music video. We also filmed an arguments here, this seemed to be the perfect place because the sun was beginning to set and this is a common place for people. It also shows the audience that they always argue, not matter the time or the place.

Costume 1

Costume 1

Here Stream is wearing a white jumper, tight skinny jeans and a red scarf. Her costume gives off an immediate message about her age and personality. This is a typical hypster/indie outfit that would appeal to our demographic. She's also wearing a red choker necklace which is trendy and what most young girls wear in our day and age. Her hair is also dyed which is a common thing for young girls. The outfit is quite casual overall, it gives off a laid back vibe.

Yusupha is wearing a white t-shirt and black jeans. The look is casual and laid back which is what most indie artist wear. However his hairstyle is quite urban which subverts the conventions and stereotypical attire of an indie artist. Nevertheless he still appeals to our target audience due to his status, age and personality.

Costume 2

Costume 2

In this scene Stream is wearing a stripped cardigan and a short black dress. The accessories she uses in this shot are all black sunglasses and a black choker necklace. Her hair is also style in a messy high bun which is a trendy hairstyle. Her costume is dark in this scene which reflect how she's feeling. She's quite vulnerable and sad, she just had a physical fight with her boyfriend and she is trying to stay strong in front of her friends. She's wearing sunglasses to hide her black eye.

Costume 3

Costume 3

Stream's friends are wearing casual clothes as well. Precious is wearing a leather jacket with a colourful shirt underneath along with black jeans. Megan on the other hand is wearing a black jacket, a white shirt and light blue jeans. The look is once again casual and laid back. Their outfits are a bit more lively and fun. This was done deliberately to portray them as the good friends that try and help her get out of the toxic relationship. The natural light behind them amplifies the message.

Costume 4

Costume 4

In this scene Stream is wearing a plated shirt, a blue wool cardigan, a blue scarf, black tights and vans. The overall look is trendy. This portrays her as someone that takes pride in her appearance. Despite her internal turmoils, she still tries to look perfect on the outside.

Yusupha on the other hand is wearing a black shirt with colourful writing along with a olive green coat and black trousers. His costume is mainly black but casual at the same time.

We used make-up to create bruises on Stream's face. The bruises create a sense of verisimilitude; the characters have sever fights. The bruises helped the overall message seem more realistic.

We used foundation and some of Stream's art make-up to make the bruises.

In this scene, Stream's make up is natural. Since she's in her house we wanted to give her a natural look.

In this scene, Stream's hair is styled and her make-up is slightly heavier but still natural looking. Her hair is cut in a trendy style that would appeal to a young hipster/indie demographic.

On this page, I analysed the location, costume and the make up of the characters.
